The Gilded Web

An ancient African brass web, resurrected in 22k gold, with a chain threaded directly through her center.

The spider’s web is one of nature’s great architectures: sweetly soft and delicate and extraordinarily strong. Strand by strand, a world is made from what was carried within.

The web has long belonged to the weavers: those who spin fate, time, story and the invisible threads connecting one life to another.

For this piece, we took an old brass web and covered her in gold, allowing the chain to pass directly through her center. There is no separation between the web and the path. You move through it. Day by day breath by breath.

For the eclipse, The Golden Web speaks to the larger pattern we cannot always see. When the Sun goes dark, the ordinary world is interrupted for a moment. We are reminded of the vast celestial architecture moving around us, whether or not we are paying attention.
