The people we meet at the gem show. That's where the gold is at. We sat next to a couple in their 80's at lunch yesterday and they shared tales of immigrating from the Ukraine and France during wartime when they were young. How they found one another in a "misplaced persons camp"--which made my heart cry just thinking of the words "misplaced person..." How can those words exist together in the same grouping when they breathe such opposite forms of life. The husband searches for lithium underground all over the world. The wife is a singer. They we wearing turquoise and malachite and carnelian. Their words carried minerals that make the stones come to life.Ā
We hung out at one of our friend's booths for over an hour without purchasing much. He goes to Brazil every year and finds impeccable stones, though a lot of them we are unable to use because we are not metal-smiths, but one day we will maybe find a way to make that happen. He recently did ayahuasca and I asked him if there were any main nuggets of wisdom he gained. He said "I was honestly just proud I made it through it." I am proud of him too. His father, who also is here every year, Ā is a badass jeweler and overhearing the conversation, said something like "I have dabbled in all of that since forever ago....I have tried it all and had all of the various types of transcendental experiences. The thing that I find works the best is the daily practice of meditation and movement." He also listens to Alan Watts. :) Presence. Every single day, that truly is the practice. For me too, I said.Ā
We met a man who has a vast collection of ancient talismans, some from Egypt and elsewhere dating back 1000's of years and made by humans who knew the Earth carried the magic. I asked this collector, Wilbur, about a golden figurine on his necklace and he told me about it and then said," when I bought this batch of golden figurines, there was one missing from the batch." I held up my necklace, a golden figurine I purchased last year from another ancient talisman collector. The one I wore was the missing one from the batch. I said, "well, now we are connected forever." He said," yes we are."
I believe we are connected forever, though I have no way to prove it.Ā
The stories of the gem show get encapsulated in the pieces we create. Stories of humans who come together for a split moment in time and the memory lasts forever.Ā
